What Is UAE E-Invoicing?

UAE e-invoicing refers to the generation, exchange, and reporting of invoices in a structured digital format, rather than traditional PDFs, scanned copies, or manually issued documents. Under the new framework, invoices are created in a machine-readable structured format, exchanged system-to-system through approved channels, and reported to the Federal Tax Authority in near real-time.

The shift is designed to improve transparency, reduce manual processing errors, and give the FTA better visibility into VAT-relevant transactions as they occur, rather than only at return filing time. For businesses, the practical difference is significant: an invoice is no longer just a document you create and send, it becomes a structured data exchange that your systems, your customer’s systems, and the FTA all interact with.

Who Needs to Prepare for UAE E-Invoicing?

E-invoicing readiness is relevant to a broad range of businesses, and the right time to start preparing depends on your revenue, structure, and current systems.

  • Large businesses (AED 50 million or more in annual revenue): fall under Phase 1, with an ASP appointment deadline of 30 October 2026 and mandatory implementation from 1 January 2027.
  • SMEs and smaller businesses: fall under Phase 2, with more time before mandatory implementation, but still benefit significantly from early preparation.
  • VAT-registered businesses: since e-invoicing is closely tied to tax reporting, VAT-registered entities are a primary focus of the framework.
  • Mainland and free zone companies: the framework applies across mainland and free zone entities engaged in commercial activities involving invoice generation.
  • Government entities: fall under the same Phase 2 timeline as smaller businesses, with an ASP appointment deadline of 31 March 2027.

Even where immediate applicability isn’t fully confirmed for your specific business, reviewing your current invoicing processes and system readiness now helps avoid delays and last-minute pressure as deadlines approach.

Our Role as Your E-Invoicing Advisory and Implementation Partner

To be clear about what we do and don’t do: the ASP provides the technology. Farahat & Co. does not operate Peppol network infrastructure or act as an Accredited Service Provider ourselves. What we provide is the advisory and implementation expertise that sits around that technology, the layer most businesses genuinely struggle with.

Our role covers:

  • Readiness assessments of your current invoicing processes, ERP systems, and VAT setup
  • Gap analysis identifying missing invoice fields, ERP limitations, and process inefficiencies
  • ERP and system advisory across the platforms your business already uses

Our E-Invoicing Advisory Services

  1. 01

    Readiness assessment

We review your existing accounting software, ERP capabilities, current invoicing processes, VAT setup, internal controls, and master data quality to establish a clear, honest baseline of where you stand today.

  2. 02

    Gap analysis

We identify missing invoice fields, ERP limitations, compliance gaps, process inefficiencies, and data quality issues that would otherwise surface as problems during implementation or, worse, after go-live.

  3. 03

    ERP and system advisory

We provide advisory support for businesses using SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics 365, Odoo, Zoho Books, QuickBooks, Xero, and other accounting systems, helping you understand what structured e-invoicing requires of your specific platform.

  4. 04

    VAT and tax compliance review

We review VAT coding, tax configuration, invoice compliance, credit and debit note processes, reverse charge treatment, zero-rated supplies, and exempt supplies, ensuring your e-invoicing setup is consistent with your existing VAT position rather than creating new inconsistencies.

  5. 05

    Implementation coordination

We coordinate between your business, your chosen ASP, your ERP vendor, your finance department, and your IT department, so the implementation moves forward as one coordinated project rather than several disconnected workstreams.

  6. 06

    Testing and go-live support

We support system testing, invoice validation, end-to-end transaction testing, User Acceptance Testing, and go-live itself, catching issues in a controlled test environment rather than in live production.

  7. 07

    Staff training

We provide practical training for finance teams, accounts payable, accounts receivable, sales teams, and procurement teams, since a technically successful implementation still depends on people using the new process correctly day to day.

  8. 08

    Ongoing compliance support

We offer recurring compliance reviews, process optimisation, support through ERP updates, internal control reviews, and advisory on regulatory updates as the FTA and Ministry of Finance continue to refine the framework.

UAE E-Invoicing Advisory Services: Frequently Asked Questions

What is UAE e-invoicing?

UAE e-invoicing is the government-mandated shift to generating, exchanging, and reporting invoices in a structured digital format, rather than PDFs or manual documents. Invoices are exchanged system-to-system through Accredited Service Providers and reported to the Federal Tax Authority in near real-time.

Is Farahat & Co. an Accredited Service Provider (ASP)?

We partner with Accredited Service Providers (ASP) to deliver complete implementation solutions, providing the advisory, readiness assessment, and coordination work around the technology, not the technology itself.

When does UAE e-invoicing become mandatory?

Mandatory implementation begins 1 January 2027 for businesses with annual revenue of AED 50 million or more, and 1 July 2027 for smaller businesses and government entities. A voluntary pilot phase begins 1 July 2026 for any business that chooses to adopt early.

What is the deadline to appoint an Accredited Service Provider?

Businesses with revenue of AED 50 million or more must appoint an ASP by 30 October 2026, extended from the original 31 July 2026 deadline. Smaller businesses and government entities have until 31 March 2027 to appoint a provider.

What is the Peppol five-corner model?

The Peppol five-corner model is the international standard underpinning UAE e-invoicing. Invoices move from a supplier’s system through their ASP, across the Peppol network to the buyer’s ASP, and into the buyer’s system, while both ASPs independently report tax data to the FTA.

What is PINT AE?

PINT AE is the UAE’s national Peppol invoice specification, the specific structured data format and XML structure an ERP or accounting system must produce for a UAE e-invoice to be valid. Invoices that don’t meet this specification will be rejected by Accredited Service Providers.

Are there penalties for non-compliance?

Yes, administrative penalties apply under Cabinet Decision No. 106 of 2025 once a business is within its mandatory phase. Businesses that voluntarily adopt e-invoicing during the pilot period, from 1 July 2026, are not subject to these penalties during the voluntary phase.

Can my current accounting software support e-invoicing?

It depends on whether your system can generate PINT AE-compliant structured invoices and connect to an Accredited Service Provider. We assess this directly for your specific platform, whether that’s SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics 365, Odoo, Zoho Books, QuickBooks, Xero, or another system.

Does e-invoicing apply to free zone companies?

Yes. The framework applies across mainland and free zone entities engaged in commercial activities involving invoice generation, with the same phased timeline based on annual revenue.

Do B2C-only businesses need to prepare for e-invoicing?

The initial scope of the framework covers business-to-business (B2B) and business-to-government (B2G) transactions. Businesses conducting only business-to-consumer (B2C) sales are not currently in scope, though this may be reviewed as the framework develops.

How long does e-invoicing implementation take?

Timelines vary depending on the complexity of your current systems, the ERP platform involved, and how much process redesign is needed. Starting early, well ahead of your applicable deadline, gives your business room for proper testing rather than a rushed go-live.

What is the first step in preparing for UAE e-invoicing?

The first step is a readiness assessment, reviewing your current invoicing processes, ERP capabilities, and VAT setup to establish a clear baseline. From there, a gap analysis identifies exactly what needs to change before implementation planning begins.
